The Undergraduate Nursing Program
The purpose of the undergraduate nursing program is to prepare students for professional nursing careers by providing learning experiences, service learning, and scholarly endeavors, based on a solid liberal arts education in a Catholic health care environment. Undergraduate nurses are prepared to become professional nurse generalists who promote health and provide care for clients in the community in an increasingly global society
There are several admission entry routes into the undergraduate BSN program:
- Generic: a traditional program for full-time students without any previous professional experience
- RN-BSN: a program for Registered Nurses with a Diploma or Associate’s Degree seeking completion of the Bachelor’s degree
- Fast Track: an accelerated program for students coming in with a non-nursing degree that can be completed in 16 months.
- Evening & Weekend: a non-traditional program which allows the completion of the nursing degree on week day evenings and week end days.
Programs are delivered onsite at West Suburban College of Nursing located within West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, Illinois. Instruction is delivered via traditional face-to-face methods in the classroom for a commuter student body. Courses are supported via the Internet by e-College and several courses are available fully online. The RN to BSN program is available fully online.
Undergraduate Nursing Program Objectives
Upon completion of this program of study, graduates will:
- Use effective modes of communication with clients, community partners and health-care providers in order to provide quality health care;
- Integrate critical-thinking processes in professional nursing practice in an effort to make logical decisions;
- Model professional behaviors that adhere to standards, practice, and ethical codes;
- Plan, implement and evaluate therapeutic interventions for clients from diverse cultures and in a variety of settings.
