 Student Employment
Campus Work-Study at West Suburban College of Nursing provides (Nursing) students with the opportunity to receive remuneration for selected duties. Campus workers are considered part-time temporary employees of West Suburban Medical Center and are, therefore, not eligible for benefits. However, as employees of West Suburban Medical Center, campus workers are responsible for the behaviors as delineated in the Employee Handbook.
To ensure academic achievements, students may not work more than 20 hours per week when classes are in session. Work hours when classes are not in session may be negotiable.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Complete financial aid application and interview with West Suburban College of Nursing. Orient to West Suburban Medical Center policies.
- Students selected as campus workers sign an "Academic Year Student Agreement." The terms of this agreement are binding for one academic year unless designated otherwise on the agreement. Students wishing to continue as a campus worker beyond the agreement period must sign a new agreement.

A campus worker may be hired to fulfill the duties of more than one category or worker.
WAGES
Wages for all categories of workers will be $11/hour. Workers who have performed satisfactorily for more than one academic year may be eligible for a wage adjustment.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Student Worker
Supports college secretaries through performance of clerical duties, i.e., basic word processing and data entry, use of copy machines, mail-outs, filing, answering phones and library searches. May assist with telephone counseling and student recruitment for admissions staff. May assist college with research or serve as a lab assistant. Work procedures are established by assigned secretary who periodically reviews completed work for quality and quantity. Work is performed under the supervision of secretarial and admission staff and administrative services dean.
Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Student in good standing at West Suburban College of Nursing.
- High-school-level knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic arithmetic.
- Knowledge of telephone etiquette and telephone skills.
- Computer skills: word processing and Internet
Functions
- High-school-level knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic arithmetic.

- Must be able to type labels and form letters.
- Must be able to enter data into data bases or statistical programs, i.e., Access, SAS, SPSS-X.
- Must be able to assist faculty or staff with data collection.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Will not handle student exams.
- Must be able to establish effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
- Must be able to work up to 19 hours per week in coordination with class schedules.
- Must be able to walk long distances and sit for long periods of time.
- Knowledge of operation of copy machine, fax and equipment.
- Answer basic questions regarding admissions.
