 Peer Tutoring
Welcome To WSCN's Peer Tutoring Site!
Learning is a lifelong process, resulting in the acquisition of new knowledge, skills, and attitudes. We recognize that not all learning occurs in the formal classroom setting with professors, rather the process can take place in a less formal setting with peers.
The purpose of the tutoring program is to increase knowledge and understanding of the nursing courses at the College, thereby improving course grades and NCLEX pass rate. Also, to give peer tutors an opportunity to develop and enhance leadership and teaching skills.
To Get a Tutor:
Referrals for tutoring may be made by an interested student, staff or faculty member or tutor. Requests for a tutor should be given to the tutoring coordinator or submitted to the Office of Enrollment Management. Tutoring requests will be honored in the order they are received based on the availability of tutors.
To Become a Tutor:
Peer tutors are paid by the College for their services. Students can become tutors in one of two ways: self-interest or recruitment by WSCN faculty, staff or tutoring coordinator. Students interested in tutoring must submit a completed tutoring application.
Tutors must meet the following criteria:
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must have earned an “A” or “B” in the class for which they will tutor
- Must have a favorable recommendation from a faculty member
- Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0
Students interested in receiving tutoring or becoming a tutor should contact the Office of Enrollment Management at (708) 763-6530 or tutoring@wscn.edu or Anne Ellis at ellisa@wscn.edu.
