West Suburban Medical Center

Welcome to the West Suburban College of Nursing community. The administration, staff, faculty and students look forward to you joining in our unique learning environment.

Founded in 1914, West Suburban College of Nursing is a fully accredited Catholic, upper division specialty college. The College currently confers two degrees:

  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

A Bachelor of Science degree in Health Informatics and Information Management (BSHIIM) will be granted when the first class of HIIM students complete all degree requirements.

Students may apply for admission to the BSN degree after earning 31 semester hours of liberal arts and science requirements inclusive of anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and microbiology. The college accepts transfer students from any community college or university that uses the Illinois articulation Initiative (www.itransfer.org) as a guideline for the prerequisite liberal arts & science courses.

Students completing the MSN degree can major in one of the following:

  • Clinical Nurse Leader
  • Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Nurse Administrator
  • Nurse Educator

West Suburban Medical Center

West Suburban College of Nursing is owned and operated by West Suburban Medical Center, part of Resurrection Health Care. Nursing courses are offered at the college campus, located within West Suburban Medical Center, in Oak Park, Illinois. West Suburban Medical Center is a sophisticated hospital with clinics and specialty care centers.
Resurrection Health Care is composed of

  • 8 Hospitals (>2,000 beds)
  • 2 Immediate Care Facilities
  • 8 Skilled Nursing Facilities (>1,000 beds)
  • 4 Retirement Homes
  • 2 Home Health Offices
  • 4 Behavioral Health Centers
  • 2 Outpatient Surgery Centers
  • approximately 50 Community Clinics, Outpatient Clinics, & Medical Office Locations

Students readily have access to clinical facilities in the system and throughout Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. These health-care facilities provide for enriched clinical experiences. Approximately 270 students are enrolled in the undergraduate nursing program. The student body is predominately drawn from the Chicago area, although enrollment from other parts of the tri-state area, and the nation, is not unusual.
