Description: Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL)

The Clinical Nurse Leader major prepares nurses to function as an advanced generalist to provide competent nursing care at the point of care and throughout the health care delivery system. The Clinical Nurse Leader will be prepared to sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader certification examination that is being prepared by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with the assistance of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Clinical Nurse Leader Major Objectives:

  1. Synthesize and apply theories and conceptual models from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical decision making.
  2. Interprets evidenced-based practice data in the nursing process to evaluate patient outcomes, assess cohort risk, and implement care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  3. Develop collaborative interdisciplinary relationships and partnerships to improve the healthcare of the cohort population.
  4. Integrates the use of information systems and standardized languages in relation to clinical outcomes and continuous quality improvement.
  5. Create a capstone project for oral and written presentation on a nursing topic.

Description: Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist major prepares nurses to provide clinical nursing expertise with the adult patient with a variety of medical and/or surgical health problems. The clinical nurse specialist will be prepared to sit for the Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification examination provided by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Major Objectives:

  1. Synthesize and apply theories and conceptual models from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical decision making.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate innovative individual or population-based programs of care to achieve quality outcomes.
  3. Serve as a leader, consultant, mentor, or change agent in advancing nursing practice across all practice arenas.
  4. Integrates the use of information systems and standardized languages in relation to clinical outcomes and continuous performance measures.
  5. Create a capstone project for oral and written presentation on a nursing topic.

Description: Nurse Administrator

The Nurse Administrator major prepares nurses to acquire a depth of knowledge and skill to transform the delivery of nursing and health care in leadership, management and systems administration positions. The nurse administrator is prepared to sit for the Nursing Administration or Nursing Administration Advanced (depending on the level of leadership with the organization) certification examinations provided by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Nurse Administrator Major Objectives:

  1. Provide leadership in conceptualization, design, implementation, and evaluation of health care delivery systems across the health care continuum.
  2. Synthesize and apply theories, conceptual models, principles and advanced knowledge from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical and administrative decision making.
  3. Develop strategies to achieve quality outcomes in care delivery with respect to patients, fiscal and human resources.
  4. Develop collaborative relationships and partnerships that are interdisciplinary and aggregate-focused to improve the health care of populations.
  5. Create a capstone research project for oral and written presentation on a nursing administrative topic.

Description: Nurse Educator

The Nurse Educator major prepares nurses in an advanced practice role with competency to be an academic educator. The nurse educator will be prepared to sit for the National League of Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Examination.

Nurse Educator Major Objectives:

  1. Synthesize and apply theories and conceptual models from nursing and education to facilitate clinical and educational decision making.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate innovative teaching, learning and evaluation strategies used in course and educational programs to achieve quality outcomes.
  3. Serve as a leader, consultant, mentor, and change agent to advance nursing education and facilitate learner development and socialization.
  4. Participate effectively in curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes.
  5. Pursue continuous quality improvement in the nurse educator role.
  6. Create a capstone project for oral and written presentation on a nursing education topic.
