Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL)

The Clinical Nurse Leader major prepares nurses to function as an advanced generalist to provide competent nursing care at the point of care and throughout the health care delivery system. The Clinical Nurse Leader will be prepared to sit for the Clinical Nurse Leader certification examination that is being prepared by the American Nurses Credentialing Center with the assistance of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).

Clinical Nurse Leader Major Objectives:

  1. Integrate the use of communication skills, information systems and standardized languages in relation to clinical outcomes and continuous performance measures.
  2. Create a capstone research project for oral & written presentation on a nursing practice topic.
  3. Synthesize and apply theories and conceptual models from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical practice decision making.
  4. Interpret and apply evidencedbased data to assess cohort risk, implement interventional strategies, and evaluate outcomes as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  5. Design, implement, and evaluate innovative population based programs of care to achieve quality outcomes.
  6. Develop collaborative interdisciplinary relationships and partnerships to improve the health care of the cohort population.
  7. Serve as an advanced practice generalist for a cohort population within the selected health care subsystem.
  8. Pursue continuous quality improvement through the clinical nurse leader role.

Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

The Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist major prepares nurses to provide clinical nursing expertise with the adult patient with a variety of medical and/or surgical health problems. The clinical nurse specialist will be prepared to sit for the Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification examination provided by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Major Objectives:

  1. Integrate the use of communication skills, information systems and standardized languages in relation to clinical outcomes and continuous performance measures.
  2. Create a capstone research project for oral & written presentation on a nursing practice topic.
  3. Synthesize and apply theories and conceptual models from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical practice decision making.
  4. Interpret and apply evidencedbased data to assess cohort risk, implement interventional strategies, and evaluate outcomes as part of an interdisciplinary health care team.
  5. Design, implement and evaluate innovative individual or population-based programs of care to achieve quality outcomes.
  6. Develop collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships that are aggregatefocused to improve the delivery of health care to select populations.
  7. Serve as a leader, consultant, mentor or change agent in advancing nursing practice across the health care spectrum for the selected population.
  8. Pursue continuous quality improvement through the adult clinical nurse specialist role.

Nurse Administrator (NA)

The Nurse Administrator major prepares nurses to acquire a depth of knowledge and skill to transform the delivery of nursing and health care in leadership, management and systems administration positions. The nurse administrator is prepared to sit for the Nursing Administration or Nursing Administration Advanced (depending on the level of leadership with the organization) certification examinations provided by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Nurse Administrator Major Objectives:

  1. Integrate the use of communication skills, information systems, and technology in relation to nursing administration.
  2. Create a capstone research project for oral & written presentation on a nursing administration topic.
  3. Synthesize and apply theories, conceptual models, principles from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate clinical and administrative decision making.
  4. Interpret and apply evidencedbased data to assess cohort risk, implement interventional strategies, and evaluate outcomes as part of an interdisciplinary administration team.
  5. Develop strategies to achieve quality outcomes in care delivery with respect to patients, fiscal and human resources.
  6. Develop collaborative relationships and partnerships that are interdisciplinary to improve the environment in which health care is delivered.
  7. Provide leadership in conceptualization, design, implementation, and evaluation of health care delivery systems across the health care continuum.
  8. Pursue continuous quality improvement through the nurse administrator role.

Nurse Educator (NE)

The Nurse Educator major prepares nurses in an advanced practice role with competency to be an academic educator. The nurse educator will be prepared to sit for the National League of Nursing (NLN) Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) Examination.

Nurse Educator Major Objectives:

  1. Integrate the use of communication skills, information systems, and technology in relation to nursing education.
  2. Create a capstone research project for oral & written presentation on a nursing education topic.
  3. Synthesize and apply theories, conceptual models and principles from nursing and other related disciplines to facilitate decision making related to nursing education.
  4. Interpret and apply evidencedbased data to assess cohort risk, implement interventional strategies, and evaluate outcomes part of an educational team.
  5. Design, implement and evaluate innovative teaching, learning and evaluation strategies used in educational programs to achieve quality outcomes.
  6. Participate in innovative curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes.
  7. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships required in the delivery of effective nursing education programs.
  8. Serve as a leader, consultant, mentor or change agent to advance nursing education and facilitate learner development and socialization.
  9. Pursue continuous quality improvement through the nurse educator role.
